Question Help setting up a static local ip address...

    Hello ladies and gentleman,
I require some assistance as I appear to be going wrong somewhere

To give you some background on my situation: I play a large amount of World of Warcraft and in order for me to do that several ports need to be forwarded from my router to my machine. I have set that up fine.

However I require my machine to have a local static ip so that the ports always get forwarded to the correct machine. These are steps I took:

    1) Ran an ipconfig /all and took note of all values
    2) Altered the TCP/IP properties of my wireless connection to use a static ip entered all settings as per step 1

This then gives me a temperamental internet connection that randomly cuts out. If I change the connection back to dynamic, all is fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this happens? Have I missed some settings out somewhere? My only thought is that when running an ipconfig, I am given three DNS servers, but when setting the static ip I can only put in two, would that cause a problem?

Apologies for ranting on so long, and thanks to anyone who can help.

    Thanks,
    Leon

Gateway set wrong? Its worth looking in your routers config page, you may be able to set it up there,

When i set up a static ip, i set my dns and gateway to be the address of my router and everything works fine. You could try doing that and see if it helps.

i'd make a reservation, or set it well outside the assignable range. traffic will still be routerd, but there's no danger or someone else's machine being assinged the same IP address
