And as for whoever's idea for VPN , you forgot the latency to the broadline line and encapsulation, and async nature of broadband.... although may just suffice for gaming.

VPN, would work and i've tested this it adds about 10ms on top of your ping while playing games this is to uk servers from janet, as for getting past your firewall. well, think i would do is look at the routing, normally halls and stuff are routed to go out a certain routers etc, and then loads of stuff is restricted, what you should do is see if there are any other ways of getting out of the uni rather than the route which they setup on your machine to take, i know when i was at uni i setup all my mates in halls to go out a different way which gave them a static external ip and they could do what ever they want nothing was restricted, (this was down to poor admin). most admins are on the ball and tbh they don't mind letting thro games etc unless they are specifically told not to but most of the time if ur nice to them they are nice back and will try and help you.

Let me know if im wrong, but wont that make it faster as it doesnt have to wait for an ACK before sending the next packet or having to resend the missing one?

TCP sends the next packet regardless, but yeah, it does make it faster, but useless for most things.
