Im about to get this (but with 14 wires)



Now I guess sockets and wire are all pretty much bog standard? However, im guessing that the patch pannel may need some specification (im not doing this myself, its from a refurbishment)?

So is there a company to be looking at for getting a mini patch pannel from?

Also, it will be going in the cuboard under the stairs, are there any other little extras anyone can think of, im new to networking.

One tip: if you don't do this sort of thing often, make a note of the order of wiring, otherwise it could all end horribly when you forget the order. Naturally, you can take another look, but it can be pain to take out all those screws just because you didn't write it down.

Also, when you cut the wires, make sure you use the stamp tool thingy the right way round. I've cut the wrong side before now, and had to start all over again! (Argh! On the eight one!)

Having said that, patch paneling is much, much, much, much, much easier than making CAT5 cables.

Ah, sorry i forgot to say - im chickening out and getting someone to do it!

However it would be stupid no to as he will be doing all the electrics, phone and ariel too!

I just need to make sure what i tell him to do is what i want!
