They don't tell you - they just strip them - seriously poor imo. :-(

I have sent loads of .ZIP's and .RAR's, i just does not like you to send .EXE's (it checks .ZIP's to see if they contain one). The way around this is to remove the .EXE extention or rename it (i.e. APP.EXE - > APP.TXT) then rename it back to .EXE at the other end.

But Gmail is the best, i just find it nice and flexible for forwarding/POP etc. The storage is less of an issue with the likes of Yahoo offering just as much now. The new Yahoo Beta is looking very good too, worth a look.

The only thing i dont like about Gmail is that its a bit Java heavy for mobile browers like PIE.

They obviously keep changing their minds (it is beta still, so, fair enough).
I even have an email from their support team saying they don't allow *any* rar files (sometime last year).

Although I've just tested it by sending a rar file with an exe in it and it went through fine, including the exe :-)

ok - it's now my preferred webmail provider - although they need to improve their crummy 10MB attatchment limit [don't tell me they have when I wasn't looking! ;-p]

Interesting. I've been sending and receiving .rar attachments for yonks, althought admittedly not ones that have contained files with executable extensions. The 10MB limit, as has been mentioned is an arse, but I've found gmail to be extremely intuititive, and reliable on the whole.

Maybe its just me, but i have both accounts and I think that the Yahoo is much better. Obviously its down to personal preference of how things look and how you like to organise things, but I am on Yahoo Mail BETA and that really is very impresssive. The interface is very polished and IMO about as near to Outlook as you are going to get for free.

You get keyboard shortcuts, drag and drop, RSS, tabbed emails. I was actually hoping for more from the new Hotmail LIVE but I have tested the Beta of that and it was nowhere near as good as the new yahoo. Which is odd, as hotmail was very polished and cleaner than the old yahoo, but things seemed to have reversed now.

If you would like screenshots then let me know and i can post some if you havent seen it. I'm sure i will get slaughtered for this, but just my 2p worth
