We have two rotuers on our main campus. The first is serving our admin lan which is for IT staff and all the core servers. The other is router is for the student domain, classrooms etc. Then we have another router on the secondary campus linked with a 100mb BT circuit.

Expensive ones!! I guess Cisco are the main stay of the 'big-boys'. Our company Routers are completely separate boxes to the FireWalls, and another separate gateway pair (ISA) for internet access and Content filtering.
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

we use Cisco GSR 12000's within our core network and to our peering. The Network is based around gigabit switched Ethernet.

It aways makes me think of a Motorbike when I look at the network

and a Mixture of Cisco Pix for security and Nokia and Checkpoint Firewall-1

Hah! Keeping costs down, I guess. Licenses for Windows Server cost too much for internal use?
There was a leaked internal MS memo about the migration of hotmail from *nix servers to Windows servers doing the rounds on the net a few years ago. It makes interesting reading even today. http://www.securityoffice.net/mssecrets/hotmail.html

All the MS webservers are *nix. But that was due to a worm taking down all the MS Windows servers so they went to a hosting company who "has better firewall software"... (There is a site which tells you what servers websites are running but I cant remember it).

Cisco routers are expensive, and also are a bugger to setup. Im doing CCNA & more routers at the moment. Im not working with Cisco routers if I dont have to, I hate them ;x
