Lynksys Wireless router as a plain Access Point ?????

has anyone successfully configured a Lynksys Wireless router as a plain Access Point (ie. with no firewall or DHCP etc configured) ??

    I have a Linksys befw11s4_v4 (802.11b).
I want to connect it to an IPCOP firewall I have built. DHCP enabled on IPCOP interface - all works OK via wires.

Turn off all fw/dhcp on linksys router, connect WAN port to IPCOP interface & it gets DHCP assigned, BUT any device connectted to Linksys router will not connect out (wires or wireless)
To my mind this should be acting as a 'dumb' access point getting DHCP from it's connected source (the IPCOP box), but it appears not.

    any ideas / experience ??????

I'm not sure about Linksys, but Belkin routers you can use as access points.

    Hope that's of help

    Hi,

I use a linksys router as an access point. I have a belkin ADSL router connected to the net and this connects to the linksys just in the normal ethernet ports NOT the WAN point.

I have no idea about IPCOP, but hopefully this might work for you.

Just turn off DHCP and don't use the WAN port and bam you've got an access point

thanks all - have also heard this from another webpage I found, although it was Linux-biased, should be OK.

I've been trying to use the WAN port - will try this.....
