Okay I've dabbled with wi-fi before so I'm not a complete idiot - but when something doesn't work and I can't see why not - I'm stuck, as is the case now.
Background situation...
Okay my internet connection since upgrading (aparently) to an 8Mb line isn't too reliable during busy periods - using the Netgear wireless router I bought was just more trouble than it's worth - dropping connection, long pauses in transmitting data, i couldn't tell if it was connected half the time since it was searching for a signal and in the meantime I was left wondering what was actually going on. So I've reverted back to my trusted old Alcatel "blue jellyfish" wired modem for the time being - this is either connected and transmits data, or cuts off and wont (but i can generally reconnect within 30 seconds...so it's a lot less stressful). Problem is the parents want to be able to connect to the internet as well on the laptop.
The Set-up...
To do this I have a Wireless USB adaptor (54Mbps, used to use it as the reciever for the laptop in "station" mode - worked flawless) now using as the transmittor on my main PC in "acess point" mode.
On the laptop I have installed the orignal PCI card 22Mbps 'WL1000 Air Link Bingatone' as the reciever.
I have no security set at this point and have turned firewall off on both machines just for testing purposes.
When the network is set-up a connection is established between the PC and laptop and a signal strength indicator is shown (excellent - they're next to each other)...but I am unable to get any internet access on the laptop.
Any idea what I should try doing, with instructions on where to go to do it (step by step preferrable!)
For referrence on the PC (transmitter) I'm getting a message saying the wireless connection has limited or no connectivity.
All help much appreciated!!
