Question Help! Connecting 2 cable routers!!

    Hi,

I have a netgear MC8000 and a Linksys router, both 4 ports, cable.
How do I connect from the modem to the router, then to pc1, and then from that router to a second router in a different part of the house, and then from the 2nd router to two other pcs? Does it make any difference if the 1st computer is a mac?

    cheers,

    brian

I suspect (without looking at the specs of the devices) that you will just be using one as a switch. So Connect one device as a router to the incoming cable connection and then a PC to that. Then connect another one of the 4 ports to one of the 4 ports on the other device - you may need a cross over cable to do this, then connect the other two computers to that device. Only the unit connecting to the incoming cable is acting as a router, but if it using NAT and is configured as a DHCP server, it will hand out local IP addresses to computers connected to the LAN. (Mac, Windows or *nix)

No gurantees it will work but nothing to lose by trying it. (I have done it with two ADSL modem/routers) in the past when I had a quick need for a 4 port switch).

Some routers actually have a switch only mode in the setup page.
