Ive just moved house, i got telewest broadband fiteed but am wondering if getting a phoneline is worth it, im rarely at home, and £11 per month for a phone line doesnt seem to justify itself.

Ive been looking at skype and getting a line in number, does anyone have any experience with this? I'd probably get a USB phone maybe even a wireless one. Does it save money? Is the call quality ok?

I use my mobile for all my outgoings, do you think this will be worthwhile or an error.

I've been using skype for a year or so for talking to my mate in the USA. Generally I find the call quality is very good, better than a mobile for instance but I am using a headset. I've not found a better overall system yet.

It'll probably work a lot better as a system if you leave your machine on 24/7 but doing this for skype alone seems a bit wasteful.

I would probably leave it running on my web & ftp server, its only a wee Athlon XP 1800 but with 512Mb Ram should be ok and its power consumption is preety low
