    ISP's throttling certain programs

Is there anyway to get around this? Other than changing ISP of course.

I'm currently with Pipex and haven't really had any problems, I have a 2mb connection and get good speeds (avg 200k) on just about everything.
However, if I try to use eMule, it seems to always be limited to 20k, less than a tenth of my actual speed.

I'm aware that Pipex have a fair usage policy, but I very very rarely use eMule. On the odd occasion when I do want to download something, it takes an age at the slow speed.

As eMule seems to be the only throttled program, is there anyway around it?

Yep, I've tried both of those.

Last month I thought nothing of it, but just tried it again yesterday today and it's exactly the same.

My download speed is constantly hovering at 20.0

Too many leechers and virii on mule. Use bittorrent mate, consistantly better speeds.

Newsgroups are a fast way of getting files. Have had 2mb/s downloads from blueyonder. Just a pain to find what you want and then reassemble it once you have got it! But there are plenty of tutorials that are only a google away!

It's just a shame cause I always found eMule to be very conveniant. Easy to find stuff too.

All I wanted to download was The Shield, Series 5 Episodes 1-5.
I hadn't realised the series had already started, I've got Sky+ set to record it from now on but I missed the first few episodes.

The Azureus (a popular bittorent client) Help FAQ has a section on traffic shaping, methods to avoid it, and a list of ISPs.

    http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php...raffic_shaping

The conclusion is that with their bittorent clinet you can turn up the steath level in steps and trade off your compatablity with other clients and the ability of your ISP to dettect and trafic shape you.

might help if there's an encryption setting.. I force encryption on uTorrent & it gets round that issue.

I've read on some sites that there are mods for eMule which use encryption. Unfortunately, when using those mods you can only connect to clients which are also on the same mod.
As a result there's likely to be a huge drop in sources.

It's a right pain, I wouldn't mind if it was throttled at peak times, or even if I was a big user.
But the fact that it's throttled all the time, and that I hardly use it anyway is annoying.

I think I'll be looking to switch ISP's in the near future, however ISP's without fair usage policys or restrictions of somekind are few and far between.

What's your upload like on emule? There's an upload:download ratio of 1:4, or something like that, so if your upload limit is set at 5k you'll only get 20k speed downloads. I think you need to increase your upload to 10k to get unlimited download speeds.

Yeah I always have my eMule upload set to 12k.

I'm pretty good using eMule, I've been using it for quite a few years so I'm familiar with most of it's settings.
There's no doubt in my mind that it's my ISP throttling me when it comes to P2P activity.

I'm with Tiscali are they are cutting down on Torrents as well. Even using utorrents encryption thing I still can't get above 15Kb/s in the evenings.
