    Wireless Network Help

    guys,

ive recently bought a Enermax EW-7128g from scan:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=152539

the only problem is the length of the cable supplied with the antenna - 90cm which barely gets it onto my desk let alone to the window where it needs to go. The cable is a RP-SMA connector, i was wondering if i get an extension cable (5m) am i going to loose any signal strength???

    cheers

You will yes, but it won't be a huge loss. Depends where the access point is?

Longer the cable - greater the loss unless the quality of the cable rises dramatically. Cheap external antenna's with longish cables typically lose half their stated gain due to the length of poor cable supplied...

Get a decent external antenna with a suitable tail cable e.g. http://www.solwise.co.uk/wireless-ca...#PREMADECABLES

    See item 22

Alternatively get a USB WIFI adapter and a 5 metre cable, you can then place the USB dongle for best line of sight...
