Bought the Draytek VG2800 having really bad packet loss

Bought this as my D-Link router was crap.

I can see it has improved things as my ping has gone from 40-60ms to 20-30ms but I was getting really bad packet loss before and I still am even with the Drayteck
I would also average a ping of 10-20ms just to my router now it is always 0

It seems to occur on different hops when I've checked it with ping plotter, its screws up my net connection and gets me disconected out of all online games.

I know my equipment is fine and I'm sure my pc's are fine too.

I've had bt out to check the line and they couldnt find a problem with it

Looks like the router is on the latest firmware and these are my stats are

snr 34, attenuation 30, so far I've seen 4 errors only on the line which is good, its been on for 6 hours.

Is this basically an ISP issue and should I switch ISP's ?

Answered your own question there buddy
Anything that the router doesn’t have direct control over (ie. the first hop and your internal network) will have nothing to do with the equipment you use. Im guessing its not on the first hop - if not, the packets are being dropped by a computer somwhere in the chain between you and their destination.

any timeof day or night.....? or just night time?

Do you have interleaving on with your ISP?

Open a telnet command (Start, Run..type telnet and hit return)

At the black box that opens type lower case o (not a zero,,,an o) and then a space and then your routers ip address

    ie o 192.168.0.1

at the next screen put in your password if you've got one for the router.

then type "adsl status" (no quotes needed)

look doe US path and DS path....if interleaving is not on, ask the ISP to whack it on for a trial run. Ping is moderately effected but packet loss is improved.

it happens in the day but I think this occurs more at night or ,maybe thats because Im on it more at night so notice it more.

Ive used pingplotter and it shows random lost packets and packet loss % at various hops after its left my router.
doesnt seem to be a pattern to it, the Draytek seems to have reduced my overall ping but my internet connection is so slow for 2mb fixed. If anything its got worse since I got my drayteck

It seems like its on dial up, I have no malware as I use 3 sererate programs to keep it clear and its a good spec pc so Im really confused at this.

Its your ISP then mate / the routes they are using for traffic - has nothing to do with your equipment, computers or router
