Wireless Connection Limited Connection Default Gateway not found

    Hello,

I am using a Sony Laptop. My wireless is an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connections. I can connect the wireless to my router but the sent keeps on going up but the receive doesn't move at all in the connection status window. Which mean the default gateway is not connected at all. There is nothing wrong with my router as my brother's computer works and my other computer works. I have already set the same parameters but still it gives a Limited or No Connectivity. I don't know what is wrong. I have tried updating the driver but it still doesn't work. Hope you can help me. If you need any more information please ask.

    Thank you,

There's an error in windows sp2 to do with limited or no connectivity, I suffered from it, there's a patch and stuff. Read
    about it here:

Has it ever worked?? - wondering if the laptop has a different wireless speed to the other kit and the router is not set to 'auto'

Check there is no static info on the laptops network settings...

What IP address are you picking up? is dhcp enabled on the router?

Tried right clicking and repairing the connection?

Other stuff to try is to turn off any firewall software and the router encryption to test...

    Hello,

Thank you for all your help.

The router has been set so that no password would be needed.

The IP I am picking up is 192.168.2.4 which is correct. But the default gateway is 192.168.1.1 which is also correct, but I don't understand why Internet Explorer is just not connecting to the network. I tried MSN and it just says the Default Gateway which means the wireless is not receiving any data at all. It is sending lots of bits but not receiving any.

Repairing it just makes the limitations go away for a while and it comes back up again.

I would have guessed it might be something to do with the Windows SP2 and all software which is installed into the computer. Will this affect it? Since I have tried removing the wireless drivers and restarted it so that it will pick up a new device. But it still doesn't work.

It has worked before for a while but don't know what happen after since.

Once again thanks to you all.
    Happy New Year,
Wish you all the Best in 2007

try picking 192.168.1.4 as your IP...

also, if you're going to be specifying ip/gateways etc, make sure to set the DNS address to 192.168.1.1...

i'm assuming that is the IP of the router - ie if you clicked http://192.168.1.1 you get the start page of the router?

can you ping www.google.com (start->run-> type 'cmd' hit enter -> type 'ping google.com' )?

May I check if I have read this correct, your machine has an IP of 192.168.2.4, and your router has an IP of 192.168.1.1?

Assuming your subnet masks are the same, and the default (255.255.255.0), then thats where your problem may lie, those 2 devices are on 2 different 'networks' (192.168.1.x for the router, and 192.168.2.x for the PC), try changing the Subnet Mask to 255.255.0.0 which should allocate 2 octects for the network address, and 2 for the host address.

I think that all makes sense

Edit: just re-read your latest post, perhaps i'm wrong, if it just happens occasionally, woops.

Had a similar problem on a friends network, changed his machine to a static IP outwith the DHCP pool and it solved his troubles.
