    Adsl + Dacs =

    BAH

Ordered ADSL at my new house with Zen, passed fine, got a confirmed activation date of 04-01.2007-01-06

    HOWEVER

Phoned them on the 5th for an update, Zen contacted BT who said they were having routing issues that was all the update said. Phoned Zen later on that day to be told BT have advised Zen there is a DACS on my line?!? Zen also say that the DACS is not on my property.

I know DAC’s is used to spilt one physical line,…. Bah!

Zen say they can’t get an update from BT until the 12th !??!?! Zen did say that they may have to dig up the road to lay a cable. All the phone lines in the village are above ground, so I have followed the line from pole to pole and found what I believe is the DACS.

What’s got my back up is the fact is the line checker mentioned nothing about DACS, I have seen lines checked before where it does come up with “incompatibility on your line”…..

I did find some old threads about DACS on here, but has anyone had any experience with DACS recently???

    Cheers

DAC's can be a nightmare. Some are so old that BT don't even have a record of many of them.

Sometimes you can still get a broadband connection with a DAC, but you can lose connection at times and have very poor speeds.

Just count yourself lucky they are on the case, some people have had to wait months. In some case's, BT have refused to remove external ones due to it being required to ensure a phone line for everyone on that exchange and any serious work would be cost inefficient.

Hey mate send me youe username and i`ll have a look into it(I work for zen).

The problem with Dacs is that in a lot of cases even Bt dont know there are dacs on the line until the circuit has supposedly gone current.

It keeps surprising me how BT can put a Dacs onto a line and then not put notes on systems.

As I said Pm me your username and i`ll see if I can get you more information on it and also try and chase things up if possible

I have been told that Zen's 256kbps service have been good for helping people with very long / bad lines. Can you tell me any more about this?

    lol.

Let me know if it works.

In a lot of cases Bt give a date a lot further on from when the work is due to be done. That way if there are any problems that they did not expect then they have some lee way

under promise and over deliver. I do that all the time. I tell people a job will take 4 days when i can expect it to take 3, that way i don't get stress if anything means it takes longer, and i get praise for doing a job quickly most of the time
