    XP Home :< File shareing

Over Christmas I have been happily tapping away at my essays on my laptop. These are all stored on my pc which is running XP home, and the folder my work is in is mapped on my laptop.

On Sunday I am going back to uni, so the file sharing is turning off so 450 people cant read my essays. What do people think is the best way to share my essays between my laptop and desktop as I am working on them?

you could make a vpn between your desktop and laptop. which will allow you to have the mapped driver in your laptop. Thats one solution.

Second solution is to encrypt your files and then save them in your desktop encrypted. You could use Axcrypt which is opensource as well.

I don't run XP Home, so haven't tried this. But it seems you can set per-user permissions in XP Home. See here or here.

Basically, you just need to start the machine in Safe mode and then go to the folder you want to share and set the proper permissions.

You can also use CACLS on an XP home machine to set permissions, though I wouldn't like to run the average XPhome user through using the command prompt tbh
