    Frequent AOL disconnects

For about a year now and especially the last few months my AOL connection has been disconnecting randomly around every 1-15mins and is causing a huge problem as i am a quite heavy online gamer and losing my score in game is VERY frustrating.

I am currently on AOL GOLD service and using thier stock BT VOYAGER 105 modem.

    What happens is this:

    1. Fine connection and happy fast speeds.
    2. Popup - "Local area network 2 is unplugged"
    3. Internet conn loses
    4. Modem tries to get a new connection
    5. I have to restart aol to connect again

    repeat every 10 mins forever..

need help plz before i smash something valuable :\

CS:S tends to kill the BT routers as well... no idea why.

Before you go splashing a load of cash on a wireless router you had better make sure that it is a 105 problem. You can buy a 105 on e-bay for as little as a fiver .Well worth the price to find out exactly where the problem lies.

I have used netgear on AOL before but funny enough my friend also has had random d/c from AOL Broadband recently.

have you phoned AOL and asked them to test it for you?

    Mine is fantastic...no probs ever.

OP...Phone AOL, tell the modem is broken and if they dont send you a new one you will cancel the subs.

Guarantee you get a new one within 5 days...

    Thats what i did.
I had the BT105 --- Told them it broke and they sent me the Speedtouch Wireless ROuter.

The about 5 months ago i told them that had broke and i wanted the Netgear. They said no so i asked to be put through to cancellations.
Within 3 days i had the Netgear and £5 a month off (now only pay £24 for Platinum).

I wouldnt get rid of AOL though.
    For:
    1. Unlimited (not even fair usage)
    2. Connectivity
    3. Speed
they are the best ive had.
I have used Bulldog, BT, and Pipex and none of them were as good.

AOL do have a fair usage policy now,

and that is true, if you try to cancel they try and offer you a cheaper deal.
