Since the lad was weened, and started eating all sorts, we've tried very hard to get him eating fish... he needs a good brain ya see.... clever Dad and all
He's very into haddock and cod... so if you see a nice fresh piece in the supermarket, or if you live near to a good port, it's only gotta cost around £2 for a fair old chunk and you can get it home, split it into 4 or 5 pieces and freeze them.
To cook... poach in milk. Put in a glass bowl, with a splash of milk over it, and cover with cling film and nuke on full power for a couple of minutes until it's cooked through.
It cools fast, once out of the milk too, so it's a good quick meal for toddlers with some mash and some peas, all of which also can be frozen in good portions
IF like us YOU like fresh fish too... stick the whole fillet in the oven as it is... on high for about 7 or 8 minutes and check,.... cook a tad more if it doesn't flake through as cooked.
But DONT let your kid grow up not liking fish... get on with it now
Also, mackerel fillets are very cheap, and while they're salted to cure them, so long as there's no other salt in the diet, you're flying.
My boy loves mackerel... especially the dark meat along the tail length, where all the omega 3 is
How about yours?
