    Nursery Places

At what ages should you register your child for a nursery place? (Scotland if it makes any difference) I've been trying to find info on this but it's proving difficult to locate to put it mildly. My wee girl was two in March and I've been advised by a friend that she should be registered for a nursery place now. However, I'm certain that I read somewhere this wasn't possible till they were three.

And on the subject of nursery, does anyone else think that 2.5 hours a day, five days a week is a bit much?

They can go from age 3 afaik, starting them off a few days a week is a good way to start.

Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?

    Re: Nursery Places

You can register her now. The earlier the better to secure a place. I work in a Nursery/pre-school and we take children in for full days at 2.8months...... We also run 3 times weekly sessions, just 2 hours long for 2 year olds

From 3 years old your little girl should be entitled to 5 free sessions a week funded by the government. Sessons usually last 2 -2 & a 1/2 hours a week, so that's well worth asking for when you register

As for 2.5 5 times a week being too much, maybe. Initially i'd start her off with one or two sessions, a week, bearing in mind that settling in may take longer if she isn't used to being left in a social setting. However, my place is open from 7.45 am to 6pm and I have known littlies do that 3/4 times a week, I don't always agree with that timescale, but the children don't mind ( too much ) and parents have to work.

Not sure what is going on in Scotland but from next summer ( 2011 ) Children aged 3 will be able to start mainstream school...
