    Places to go in london

Taking my 16yr old nephew to london soon(as he is visiting from south africa) and want suggestions of places to take him in 1 day(don't want to go anywhere mega expensive but still show him the sights). Not going to let the attack put me off.

Thought of going places like picadilly circus, trafalgar square, harrods, walk along the south bank in the evening. The usual places obviously. Want some ideas of really nice places to take him that really show what london is like(ie covent garden, carneby street etc). The only place he wants to go for certain is madam toussad(or however you spell it).
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

you seem to know many of the sights already?

are you looking for the less generic ones? (less well known)

I want to show him the usual touristy places but also want to show him places which are off the mainstream tourist trail(ie less well known but brilliant places).

Which are the best places to go as need to do it all in 1 day but not be in a huge rush to go places(ie I realise I cannot show him all of london but want him to get a varied snapshot of the best of london).

take him to Nandos in SoHo
you've got most of them - I'd go to the cittie of yorke in holborn for a decent pub lunch - very historical pub - I'm sure you'll be able to swing a half pint for him.

Go to a couple of the big parks - regents park is pretty cool, camden lock is fun, but the market is a bit of a joke now - spittalfields is better

Think you can pre book and get an arrival time, probably worth checking the website. British museum is probably worth a look, Egyptian stuff will interest most kids and its free. Imperial war museum, HMS Belfast, Covent Garden definitely worth a look theres usually street performers down there.

For a first visit I always think The Tower of London in the best. Then Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar square, Buck Palace and the Mall/Horseguards (changing of the guard is a must). Pure touristy stuff and I'd do it again and again although for me now, every month or so it's the galleries and museums that attract me.

exactly - nandos is a must because then he can say how lame the portion sizes are

yo sushi is fun also - and it's pretty cheap

carnaby, oxford and regent streets are a bit of a nightmare this time of year - unless you hit them either very early or late (i.e. after 5.30 pm, or before 10am)

hang out outside the mtv london studios and get on tv - always amusing

go to level 42 for a drink, or oxo tower - great views on a sunny afternoon
