Can someone recommend me a power supply, ive got a BFG 8800GTS and hear its a power hungry monster some people saying it needs 26A others saying its 32A.. Dunno what PSU to get cause all these specs are confuzing me abit, the PSUs ive looked at are

HIPER - 580W Type-R
http://www.hipergroup.com/English/pr...hpu-4k580.html

Corsair HX 620W
http://www.corsairmicro.com/corsair/...er_supply.html

both dont do 26a so im starting to wonder if this 8800 needs a nuclear reactor or something....

Over 600W <--thats a very braod statement! Its not the watts its the 12V rail
Enermax Galaxy <--- Overkill totally
Hiper <--- You are joking.

OP...get yourself a Corsair 520W. Its the best PSU on the market right now in the range you need and require.
If you arent going SLI then that the one you want.

Stay away from the Hipers. All bling and not that stable. For those that say they are decent, they have never ever tested one under correct conditions using a DMM.
For £10 more than an underpowered Hiper then the Corsair is the way.

If you dont fancy Corsair then:
1. Seasonic
2. Enermax Liberty
3. Antec NeoHE
4. OCZ Gamexstream

All four are similarly priced and a mile ahead of Hipers.

It'll run fine on the Corsair, and run alright on the slightly larger 670w Hiper.

Yeh was first considering the Hiper but after reading some mixed reviews ive changed my mind.

Will the corsair still be powerful enough tho for the future for example say i wanted another 8800? im not quite sure it will be so for an extra 30 quid i could get a bit more power to secure the PSU if i did wanna get another card later on...
was thinking about getting Enermax Infiniti 720W 56A are they any good?

i read you need 56A or more for 2x 8800GTX... So if ive got a GTS which is slightly lower than the GTX then im proberly in the clear and just about right.

was thinking about getting Enermax Infiniti 720W 56A are they any good? While the corsair is powerful enough to drive a pair of 8800gtx cards, it doesnt have 4 pci-e leads, which would mean using adapters. The infiniti is new, but has had a few good reviews. It is like a slightly chopped down galaxy, looks great on paper.

I don't know why people beat on Hiper... I can't find anything wrong with mine, but then again i don't really run anything TOO major on it. Maybe when i get my R600 it'll fail on me, but we'll see.

Dunno but i read a few of comments where they conked out after a few months, thats why i said about the mixed reviews. I suppose they are in general pretty good just some of them might not be as good as the others.

Any advice on this ThemalTake PSU?

Probably nothing, but 2 of my friends had the hyper type R, both of those failed, both of them took other parts with them. A story which is all too common with Hiper PSUs.

If you get a good one, then thats lovely jubbly

The Hipers are notoriously poor under load and the fluctuation of the 12V rails droop heavily.
The are OK for mid systems but never in a million years should they be used with todays high end components/SLI/Crossfire.

The one and only thing Hiper have got spot on is the connections for the modualr cables. They are the best i have seen.
Why the other manufacturers havent follwed suit is amazing.

TT have a VERY chequered history with PSUs.
There is no doubt that the new generation have been properly made and are miles better than the old versions. They used to ship them out to poor quality factories and populate them with second rate components.

IMHO.....whether TT have raised their game or not is irrelevant.
They used to ship rubbish onto an unsuspecting market (the worse units used to blow and take many components with them when they did), so why would anyone want to spend their hard earned cash on their units? YOu can get as good or far better for similar prices.

Its been said 10000000000 times but the Corsairs (520/620) are by far and away the BEST PSUs on the market today.

If you are going Quad or SLI 8800GTX then Enermax Galaxy 850 or 1000 are the way to go....anything else then Corsair is the one and only choice tbh. (£60ish for a 520 is outstanding value)
