For anyone who's using wireless in Vista and getting annoyed with lag spikes

With wireless networking in Vista there's an issue with lag spikes that occur every 60 seconds as windows searches for wireless networks. This is in the same way as XP used to spike when you used Wireless Zero Config...but it could be fixed by installing third party software. As far as I know there isn't any third parth software for wireless network adapters in Vista yet.

The lags can be incredibly annoying when gaming online or downloading.

Here's a fix for it if anyone's interested. There's a better Beta2 version if you click on "downloads" on the left hand side of the screen.

Im on wireless (eventually) with Vista 64 bit and dont get any lag.

Am i just lucky????? Maybe ...but it all works fine

Could just be bad drivers. I know CL had horrible beta drivers that had gaps and crackles when I was using it, and that was with Direct Sound output.

Try pinging your router...spike every 60secs. It happens on pretty much all vista OSs I think, at least as far as I have read...although this program won't make any difference if you don't play something like Battlefield 2. I was ready to throw my PC out the window as I lined up a perfect shot then leapt somewhere else on the map.

It's nothing to do with drivers, it's the wireless configuration thing that Vista has, the equivalent of WZC in XP. The lag happens when it looks for new networks every 60 secs.

It was fine at work when I was playing with Vista :|

//edit: actually, I can remember a similar occurrence on XP, but only when using WPA-PSK. It's been fine when using other security settings.

I play BF2 for a while each day and dont have these problems. Strange eh!

Also, no problems in UT2K4 or Quake 4.
