    Kit creation

    Hi All

My first time posting on the site and all I have is a bunch of questions I hope some of you can help with.

I am in the process of buying my kit and this is what is on my shopping list:

E6600 - not bought yet, looking at £150ish from Scan
Gigabyte DS3P rev 3.3 - can anyone confirm if there is a retailr that can guarantee the revision of this board you get and the best price.
Corsair 520W PSU - bought from OCUK
Geil 2Gb PC6400 Ram - bought from OCUK for £66.
Seagate 320Gb 7200.10 Sata II HDD - bought from OCUK for £52
Akasa Eclipse 62 Case - worth it or not? best price so far about £80 from Kustom PCs
Noctua CPU Cooler - bought from OCUK for just over £30.

Can i firstly have some people's thoughts on the rig itself. Secondly what graphics card they'd suggest, medium gaming with a budget of around £150max. Thirdly cover off the question about the motherboard and that's about it, thanks in advance

Slightly over the buget but a great deal, see this thread:

    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=107114

The eclipse case is good, but i would rather get an Antec p180 due to noise, however the eclipse is great if your often tinkering inside.

Also if you make a thread in the scan support forum about motherboard revisions they may be able to help you.

That's nearly exactly the same as the new rig i am thinking of upgrading to.
Except im getting an ATI 1950 Pro 512mb as well. I would recoomend it as you get a lot of bang for buck, they are like £100-120 ish

Well by the looks of it he has already purchased the OCUK items. For future reference though i recommend scan with which you get free delivery over 30 posts on here.

I've spent many weeks reading reviews, getting advice from Hexus etc etc... and this is the system I came up with (see sig), it's a what some ppl would call a modest budget but for me it's a lot! Looks as if you have same kind of price range - unluckily you've already bought some of your stuff!

    E6600 - yes, go 4 it
DS3p - spent many hours checking this and others out, for the price u can't beat it IMO
You would have been better off getting a cheaper case and spending more on better RAM maybe...?

Is the E6600 that much better than the E6420? As they all clock pretty well, might be better saving a few £ and spending more somewhere else?

If you look at clunks OC guide u cud easily get the e6320 or e6420 up to e6600 levels & on upto 3ghz. Id say go for the lower clocked CPU and overclock it.

At the end of the day I can send the Geil RAM back but £66 for what is considered very good stuff seems silly to go elsewhere!

I was not sure re the CPU, I just thought for £140 it was wroth going for high speed initially then clock later. But if people think its much more worthwhile to get something a little slwoer to begin with then I am willing to listen. Is the 6320 the best to go for?

The case just seemed very well reviewed.

As for what I've already bought I aint gone over the top yet. Just memory, PSU, fan and HDD.

    Thanks guys

I would gp with the Antec P180. Build quality very low noise from the case and looks better IMO than the Akasa. However there is much more room in the Akasa, that could provide more long term benefit.

As for Video card I would not go near INNO3D my 8800GTX died yesterday 5 months old if it was over the year warranty thats £400 down the drain. I have now bought BFG with the lifetime warranty or you could go XFX 2 year warranty or has already been suggested EVGA.

In terms of which series/model that will depend, on what monitor you plan to use?

You may want to have a breeze through Xcase's site they have a huge range.
