    Heatsink Lapping Kit

    Hi guys

thinking of lapping my heatsink and was wondering if you would recommend me buy a lapping kit?

or do i go buy the sand paper from local hardware store (B&Q)

also ive search google and found a zillion different guides, which one do i follow? and which sandpapers do i definitely need?

    any help, much appreciated

    thanks!

For ultra fine sand paper best to go to halfords, think you can get 2000 grit from there and below.

If you haven't got a piece of glass you can pick up a clip frame from a craft store for 69p which will do you fine. Should come in around the same price as a lapping kit from some places and will last longer.

    Use a lapping machine?

I saw one yesterday at a lab I'm just about to start working at.

Just go to your local car spares place and ask for 3 sheets of wet and dry, 400, 800 and 1000, should cost around 50p per sheet.

Then get a piece of glass, a local glass place should be able to sort you out.

Then lap away to your hearts content.

yeah i lapped one by hand a few years ago with nothing more than sandpaper and a flat surface. mirror like and a nice temp drop. local wilkinsons should have the nessasairy stuff. brasso/silvo (i cant remember whichd i used) will get it buffed up like a mirror after the initial sanding.
