    Checklist for new build!..

    Hi Guys,

A quick question here, all the new bits for me new pc build have arrived, and I'm looking at starting and (touch wood) finishing the build tomorrow.

I have bought all the bits i need, but was wondering whether i need certain items to complete the build, I've got a list of questions which I was hoping you could help me answer.

#1 - SATA cables - I am moving from an IDE based system to a SATA based system (2x HDD's and 1xDVD drive). I wondered whether my motherboard would include any (Asus P5B Deluxe).
I've bought two spare cables in the hope that at least one would be included with the mobo! anyone know if it does come with any?

#2 - Thermal Paste - Anyone know if the Scythe Infinity heatsink/fan has thermal stuff included (or alternatively, does a retail E6600 have some in it?)
If not, I've got some generic stuff I bought, but should i be looking for some branded 'super paste!' or will generic stuff be just as good?

#3 - Missed Anything? - Anything that would be critical to a new build that I've missed?
I'm set for tools etc, but if there are any items which would make my life easier, please let me know :]

    Cheers

    You'll get sata cables.

The ninja comes with some rubbish paste so i guess the infinity does.

    Retail cooler has it pre-applied.

Only tools you need is your head and your hands

    Hey,

The board will certainly come with at least 1x S-ATA cable, likely more.

I believe the paste of choice is still Arctic Silver. The ceramic variety in particular. That said, 90% of heatsinks come with a paste of some kind. Good paste typically lowers your temps by about 2 - 5 degrees idle/load.

I think you've got everything covered.

    laze.

I'm always a tab sloppy when it comes to paste application, I'll just hope the heat sink has some pre-applied, and then that the effing huge thing will fit into the case without suspension cables to keep it upright!

the best thermal paste is artic cooling MX-1:

The other bottom two actually fuse the heat sink to the cpu.

The asus p5b comes with 6 sata cables

    1. My ds3p came with 4 sata cables. You should get enough with the board.
    2. The paste will likely be on the cooler so I wouldn't bother buying any more.

I think if you've got all the other components you should be fine.
