Noticed Scan are doing a MixIt special on an Xclio case and PSU, which might bring down the total price. From what i've read on here the cases are poorly built but the PSUs dont seem to bad. Anyone comment?

    MixIt offer 1: http://www.scan.co.uk/mixit/

the mixit deal number 7 looks a better offer to me...

also the antec nsk range may suit you - some come with (hopefully pretty decent) power supplies but you can get without if you like too.

I saw that one and wondered about it.
real question is what that psu is like, probably be best off asking in the Scan care section.
There's a good chance that it could be a good psu made for resale/rebrand.

As to installing XP you should be ok with an OEM as long as you have the original / correct cd. if you couldn't then we all be pritty stuck when we reinstall windows.

I called them up and asked them about it, and was told that they've never had any complaints with it. However given that it looks like a (fairly) recent case/PSU combo, its hardly suprising. Fingers crossed it will be ok. I'll let you know what the build quality is like, and could always do a photo walkthrough too when assembling.

As for XP, I do have an original OEM SP2 cd, but picked up another one anyway, that way I can keep my old computer up and running without having to worry.

All in all it came to just the wrong side of £500. Not bad though compared to what I've seen of pre-builts

Hmm, this was taken AFTER I ordered...looks like I may have grabbed the last MoBo...

I ordered it over the phone, and did turn on the charm, and mention that to the sales guy thinking he may allow it. He actually informed me that they no longer do it? A bit weird since I was pretty sure I read about it only a couple of days ago...

Although, £10 out of £520 doesn't seem like much, that money could have made the difference between the X1950 Pro and GT...

Oh well. Should still be a fairly capable machine, I hope.

Work out which o/s your programs work best on and which has the most compatible drivers for all of your stuff and go for that one!
