    Have you put the 12v 8/4 pin power lead into the motherboard, and also the graphics card power lead if it has one?

    You need to post the details of the system.

    yeh ive put a 4pin in the mobo power slot the graphics card doesnt have one its a pretty ancient thing.

    Got a 550w psu with 18a and 17a on two 12v rails (im not sure if thats the correct info you need or ive displayed it right)

    The mobo is a Abit IP-35E http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=605521
    1 gig 533mhz ram (tried with and without, switching places using one and not the other ect.
    And a core 2 duo e4300
    Monitor is a standard 17inch lcd that worked fine with the gfx card with the last mobo

    Should also probably tell you the computer sseems to start up in a funny way...it switches on everything runs for maybe 3 secs, then it shuts down for maybe 2 secs and starts up normally

    So, the fans and everything are spinning up and staying spinning, just no picture on the screen?

    Check the obvious first;

    The cable from the card to monitor (got a spare?)
    Make sure that the card is seated properly.
    Make sure that nothing is shorting.

    Then;

    Try another PSU. Some boards (not sure about that one), have issues with some PSUs, where they dont get enough juice at startup, and it hangs before post, Ive had a few like that.

    Try another card.

    Remove 1 stick of ram, and try it in each slot, and then do the same with the other stick (unless of course it boots).

    ive tried the ram, ive tried swapping cards i cant try no card though because the mobo doesnt have a monitor connector thingy on the front panel.

    And i dont understand what you mean by shorting? Sorry pretty new to this hope you can help trying a different cable now though

    EDIT:Cable switching didnt help, gonna try a different psu but the one im using in his was the one i had last, that again worked fine, this is really starting to annoy me now

    Also are you saying to use a different psu as in an even more powerful one? 550w the current one is the highest weve got, other is 350 and another i think is only 250

    Regarding the PSU...any other will do (as long as it has the correct connections), just to see if it fires it up.

    Shorting, as in short circuiting, like a stray bit of bare metal touching the motherboard, or a stray wire inside that is touching something it shouldnt be...that kind of thing...also look at the I/O shield at the back of the motherboard (long oblong thing that the motherboard connectors poke through, and check there are no bits of stray metal there.

    Cant you take the graphics card out of another pc to test? If not, and the other stuff doesnt work, then its looking like a trip to the local pc shop to get them to test the bits for you.

    Is the only thing thats changed, the motherboard?

    Have you tried taking the CPU out and checking if you have bent any of the pins inside the socket?

    Have you tried the graphics card in the other pci-e slot?..shouldnt really have to, but it could be a dodgy slot.

    only one slot on this board, fyi i looked t the cpu again, theres nothing wrong with it, however i noticed in the socket which is a square as you know like this (being two parrallell sides)

    II ............................ II
    II ............................ II However one of the sides was sought of bent inwards so it looked more
    II ............................ II like this ) like pressing in the center of one side, could that possibly be
    II ............................ II interfering with a cpu contact? Oh and i didnt do it either
    II ............................ II
    II ............................ II
    II ............................ II
