athlon comming back strong?

I have been shocked at some of the utter dribble from Tom's Hardware. I can cope with them being Intel Fanboys, but they really don't seem to understand what they are reviewing. A knowledge of basic physics or electronics is right out.

Obviously no-one is perfect and Anandtech are not always right, but they have never made me shake my head in pity and hit the close button as I just can't take any more

In their early days Tom's were so good as well, it saddens me they are now so awful.

Sure you can. You just have to decide whats more important to you for a given price - single-threaded performance or multi-threading/multi-tasking.
