    Ahhh pesky U.S date format.

Was possibly an alternate article I ssaw with these specs then, because I remember them form a good few months back now.

If it even remotely lives up to these specs it's going to be a complete monster... but so will the price too.

It won't consume less power, nor run cooler, as nVidia will squeeze as much as possible out of every one.

What we need is a law passed to limit power consumption of PC devices, then we will see truly quiet and well designed silicon.

Simple - they just calculate FLOP capability then say that this one is twice that of the older card. Statement is true in that case.

Hmm... wasn't the 8800GTX 2x faster than a 7900GTX? The 6800 Ultra 2x faster than the 5900? 2x faster is perfectly within reason given previous advances.

Actually come to think of it your pretty much right. It was nearly twice as fast in most games.
Amazing if they can pull it off again, and with reduced consumption as well.
    Bring it on I say!

    Re: Nvidia 9800 GTX

From what I am reading the first card looks like it will be a GX2 not unlike the early 7950's
It seems it may be 2x 8800GTX's stuck together, but it will be a single slot design.
Sounds like just what I need if I want to SLI and keep my PhysX and X-Fi cards.
Hope the rumour is true, but we'll see

    Re: Nvidia 9800 GTX

The drivers may be ok for the latest cards but the 7900 range are almost unuseable on some games with the current crop of drivers. You have to go back a lot of generations before you find ones that are reliable and then they won't work with a lot of newer games.

Presume you mean it uses a single-slot rather than a single-slot cooler, as there's no way on earth they'd cool 2x8800GTs/GTSs with a single-slot cooler!

It's just going to answer the HD3870X2, that's all it's for. It'll be interesting to see how this works though, as if it doesn't have it's own PCIe bridge, then all of a sudden ATi's solution is looking mighty, mighty attractive, and not just in the enthusiast value for money stakes.

All I read is that it utilises a single slot space on the Motherboard allowing for more GPUs to be fitted I suppose.
You are also presuming that the GPUs will be on separate cards and not side by side ala 3DFX Voodoo 5s.
NVIDIA paid a lot of money for that technology when they took over 3DFX.
This is all just guess work though, so no flaming

    Re: Nvidia 9800 GTX

It only uses one PCI-E interface connector.. but it takes up two expansion card slots in the case, if that makes sense Phillikon?

We expect them to use seperate PCBs because none of their double cards since acquiring 3dfx have been side by side.
