Mass of external mains cables and speaker cables to tidy - need ideas!

Right, I've just decorated and moved this room round and I have a shedload of wires that have got out of hand, and I could do with knowing what some of you have done with yours.

There are 3 or 4 of those 5 into 1 mains socket things with surge protectors on.

There are about 15 mains wires with plugs on, including a few with odd, bulky mains adaptors, cable modem wire, thick speaker wires, thick VGA cable, RGB cables, scart cables

I can't go under the floor, or into the walls, so its a case of extreme tidyage

    All ideas and suggestions welcome

    Thanks.

large spiro wrap mate, just make into groups, power/signal .........nice

or go extreme and get some largeish plastic cable ducting Like This although not at rs prices

(available from most generic electrical suppliers, with dividers or channels, so one carries mains and the other carries the rest) and use a hole saw to break out the cables where needed and a touch of spiro out of it, unfortunately usually only available in white but some spray paint will sort it out.

    happy days

I went beserk with that black flexible split conduit, picked it up from the local electrical place. It's not perfect by any means but it's easy to use and looks a damn sight neater than a snakes nest of wires. I'd show a pic but the cams gone walkies again.

Ignore the price on this - clicky on the magnifier for this one - and another dull pic

Gather the cables you need in linear fashion, tape round the top, middle and bottom, slip the conduit over, put strategically placed thin bands of same coloured black tape round the conduit - you can either seal the two ends off with black rubber heat shrink if you want a professional finish - or just carefully wrap some black electrical tape 1cm from the end and 2 cm onto your cabling, like I did. Blue peter madness

Re: Mass of external mains cables and speaker cables to tidy - need ideas!

I think what I would like to do is dump the 5 into 1 extensions as they were white ones that have gone a bit yellowy.

I've seen some black 10 way extensions at maplins, so a couple of those should do it, one for the PC stuff and one for the AV stuff I think.

The only problem now is how to best hide them as the desk is glass and so is the AV rack thing, so will have a look at the ways already mentioned while I wait for the extensions to arrive

Still open to suggestions and pics though.

    Thanks

    Square plastic ducting like this
    http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/na...isSearch=false

Run it along the skirting board should be able to get elbow joints for corners.
Hacksaw, jig saw, drill or drimmel will cut it fine.
Good double sided tape will stick should stick it to the skirting board fine.
Paint it to matcg you decore.

Thanks, that would work out a bit pricey though at 9 quid a metre. I think I saw some of that kind of stuff but cheaper recently.

    I'll have a look

    I've used this before

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/JML-Cable-Ti.../dp/B0001PY4FG

Or you can use cable ties as well.

Oh if you want plastic ducting then go to a plumb center or go to electrical wholesalers, they will have it cheap

    Think outside the box.

How about cable tying them to under the desk like so, and another.

Ive been doing it for ages looks tidy when you come into the room and the only ones left hanging are for the mouse for obvious reasons.

Use cable ties first to keep all cables round and neat and then use spiral wrap or you can use velcro cable wraps to help you.

Yep, that was the idea, but the desk is see through glass, so it will have to be wrapped first

I would need 3 of those, and 75 quid plus postage is a bit much, but cheers for the ideas

IMO Velcro is quite good as it is reusable.

Also, Poundland do the cable tidy kits - I'm sure it's the same kit linked to Amazon in one of the above posts.

Maplin do a bunch of stuff, because I was looking to do the same thing. Shame your desk is glass or I'd say saw a circular hole in it and put the cables through that in spiral wrap.
