    Re: My pc your thoughts

Doesn't look like you'll be overclocking so you may as well save some green and go with PC5400 memory - aside from that it looks good.

Adding prices to each item would help us to advise you further.

EDIT: And what about a case?

    Re: My pc your thoughts

why dont just get a C2D 2140 since its like 50pounds and you could get a decent mobo for quite cheap too. that way if you intend to upgrade later you can cheaply

    Re: My pc your thoughts

Looks like a fine system. I've got an X2 3800+ and 2gig of ram and my computer's plenty nippy.

Do you really need the sound card (or do you have it already?). On board sound would seem to be more than capable for webbrowsing and dvd burning and save you a few bob.

On motherboards you could also save a £10 and go for a M2A-VM motherboard based on the 690G chipset. I have a M2NPV-VM in my media center PC and it's great, but the 690G boards are meant to be fine for non-gaming use as well.

And as nightshadow says, what about a case? Had sure it's something sturdy or the rattles will drive you crazy...

How about something completely different: Acer Aspire L100. An extra gig or ram and speakers and you're up to spec. Comes with an XP licence as well, and if you're doing business things then I wouldn't skimp on that...

    Re: My pc your thoughts

Ok thanks guys for all your input but i`ve had a little change around and come up with this.

    OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK)
    (£55.21)
    NEC AD7170A 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Silver) - OEM N
    (£18.79)
    Value Hanns-G HW191D 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Silver
    (£117.49)
    Corsair VX 450W ATX PSU
    £46.99
    D-Link DES-1005D/B 5-Port Fast Ethernet Switch
    (£12.91) £10.99
    (£12.91)
    OcUK ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
    (£72.84)
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 160GB ST3160815AS SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM
    (£38.76)
    Creative Inspire T3100 2.1 Speakers - OEM
    (£23.49) £19.99
    (£23.49)
    MSI K9N Neo V3 nForce 560 (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
    (£46.99)

I all ready have a case a themaltake soprano,i`ve got the the cpu already as it was free from my brother
my thoughts are later on to just change out the mobo and cpu and go core 2 duo,but at this time i`ve no real need or cash for it.
One thing is the graphics card i`m intrested in would it be better to get a GeForce 8600 GT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI over the X1950 just a thought thanks.

    Re: My pc your thoughts

    Few recommendations:

    - Swap the memory to 2GB PC5400 as PC6400 is pointless unless you're overclocking.

    - Change the DVD drive to a Samsung SH-S203.

    - Maybe change the motherboard to an Abit KN9-S.

    - The X1950Pro is a better gaming card than the 8600GTS, stick with it.

    - Don't shop at OCUK.

If you not gameing then your really don't need anything much in the way of a graphics card, on board will be fine.

I've just installed that SATA drive in an XP build with no problems, XP picks it up fine. I would however update the firmware when you get chance.

If you're buying a creative card, hold off for a while and wait for the Auzen X-Fi Prelude
