You get a better response from more units.
    i.e 2x1gb is better than 1x2gb

Plus looking at RAM prices its not a bad price

    I agree with Mike.

Get an Abit IP-35 Pro (screw SLi, it's pap), two lots of 2GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400, and something like the Scythe Infinity - then you'll be getting there.

As for Raptors, I'd say they weren't worth the premium / extra noise (yes, I'm aware that I own one ).

Yep, it's a very nice case, I built a PC with one a couple of weeks back and now want one for myself (the full length 5 1/4 bays in the front are perfect for a double rad).

Re: Will this be an awesome gaming rig?

Get a P35 board, and stick with the 8800GTX, even at 1280x1024. Sure it's overkill now but you will be using it next year right? It'd suck to buy a new game in January and have to put the settings to medium just because you bought a GTS instead...

Re: Will this be an awesome gaming rig?

Surely even a 320mb 8800GTS should be able to handle resolutions 1680x1050 (the usual resolution of a 22" WS). For the price of a GTX you could buy a GTS and a 22" right now!

Or you could buy a GTS now and in January sell it and buy whatever's affordable then (a GTX? or whatever the new nVidias are going to be) and a 24" monitor.

No but you don't need PC8500 for a Q6600 unless you've got plans of water cooling / crazy overclocking.
