For a gaming rig....
What would u suggest. Im thinking of building a gaming for going to LANS. Looking to spend about 900 quid. AMD but not sure whether nvidia or ati... It will be for cs source mainly. Wot would be ur suggestions if i were to build in 2 months. U dont have to go into detail. Just some rough ideas from you lot. I wanna go shuttle cause there jsut so small and cool, any downsides of the shuttle?

No downsides to the shuttle really. SN25P, upgradeable, affordable, quiet, performs well and so on. No SLI on that one but i do believe there will be SLI shuttles soon.
SN25p, is that afrom the brand "shuttle"? If not what are your veiws on that brand? I think i would prefer an SLI shuttle as i would like this to be future proof. If i bought the shuttle and a few months down the line a sli mobo came out for shuttles could i replace the mobo in my shuttle? Or will i have to buy the whole shuttle? Sorry for noob questions but im learning about shuttles
Not sure I see the point of an SLI shuttle, will just make it bigger! I don't think SLi will future proof you in any way with a small, portable system. You will not need more than a 6800gt or x800xl to play CS:S and as its a lan computer I guess you will be running a maximum of a 17" tft, so will only need 1280x1024 resolution. If you are sensible and want to save money then a single gfx SFF to carry around is a good idea. If you want to have a computer full of gimmicks that is too heavy to carry and will be too powerful for you monitor then buy a tower!

Adding SLI to a shuttle will not make it bigger, as shown here by shuttle themselves......who better?
As you can see, it comes pre-fitted (a bit of a pain, but fun nonetheless) with 2 6800GT's running in SLI with a bespoke heatpipe cooling solution.
However, it will not future-proof you, as 6 months down the line something better/faster/cheaper will arrive making everything we've got now look like pocket calculators....
I myself have a Shuttle, which is not only my main machine, but is also perfect for transporting to the odd LAN now and then.......it works a treat, is easy to move and is more than powerful enough.
Have been using Shuttle's for about 18 months now.....can't fault them.
I also have a shuttle and use a 6800gt in it, however that kind of set up above really is overkill for a lan rig for CS:S! No-one in their right mind would carry around the 20" monitor that would benefit from that setup. I still think a better and probbly cheaper option is a single gfx card pci:e system that would be future proof and be of the right power for a 17" tft. However, that is a mean piece of kit!

You guys are right. Think i will stick with 1 gfx card. I was only thinking sli because i dont want to have to upgrade in 2 years because my pc wont run the latest games. The shuttle will be used like jinx is used. Lans every so often, but mainly in my room. Im obviously going to want to play new games coming out and future releaes like Bf2. Would u say its worth getting an ultra over an GT. Worth getting 2 gigs, or jsut buy 1 then buy another further down the line. I will be using a 17inch flat. What cpu do u think i should go for? san diago or venice. speed?

It all depends on what fits in your budget. 6800gt probably best as ultra's are hard to find in single slot config. Get as much ram as ypu can and remember you only have 2 slots, so use them wisely. I would also go for the fastest processor you can get in your bugdet because although shuttles overclock they do get rather hot if you go too far! Don't forget using a 17" tft restricts you to 1280x1024 res, so a 6800gt overclocked to ultra speeds will do most games with high af and aa!

methel, some really good points there. All of which i didnt know. When i get the ram, it will be a gig stick as i dont want to have to rebuy twice. I think a gig will suit me fine, if i get a quality gig. Cause then i can upgrade to another gig, in a few months time and it not be out of date... I dont suppose u have msn mate, as it would be nice to get some more ideas of u?

ok m8. I had my exams last week. what shuttle would u recommend m8? The one mentioned above? Is that the dogs ******ks or are there others... biostar? they look cool, but any good?
The sn25p seems to be the fave atm, but look at the st20 as well.

Is it worth in about 3 months going pci-e like the ST20G5, or is it worth staying with AGP. What are the performance differences, because the gfx card prices are pretty much the same. Thanks againFor gaming especially cs:s would u recommend a amd nvidia combination?
i think pci-e is the way forward. All future cards will be on this format.
