    Weird P5k Deluxe issue.

    Hello everyone,

My 1st post here. Seems like a lot of you guys know your stuff. I was lead here by the p5k add on guide (clunk is it?) which was nice piece of work. To get to the point....

Got a p5k deluxe yesterday and a q6600 and I nail it to 3.6 ghz and 1.42 vcore right off the bat.. I am not one to have the paitence for 12 hour prime sessions so I just play games and if they crash then I back off. Yes I know not a best practice but it works for me and always has. Stable overclock is what we are after right ? To me I dont care how I get there.... Anyway stability is not the issue as I have been playing Bioshock (oh the joy!), Dirt, and Medal Of Honor Airborne with no issues and all smooth as glass all the time...

My problem became obvious when I decided to go for a higher fsb. I set 8x450, rebooted and WHOA !! 4GHZ !!!! Ummm, I could not believe it posted. Anyway after some trial and error I see that this 4ghz is incorrect (benchmarks didnt go up high enough) and I have different prgrams telling different things. Windows says 4050mhz, Cpu-z says 4050, Tat says 3600. Sandra says 4050 (mem bench was 8519 woot!) so what is going on here ? Bios 0202 I think ? sorry I cant recall but I think its 202. I do geta ucode error at boot but thing is I dont mind that or the wrong readings because I have a quad at 3.6 stable and that is all I want. With the f1 error ignore enabled its not an issue. Is there a good reason to update the bios if that is what I need to do. I want this stable overclock more than I want correct readings. I can figure out the readings on my own since i know tat is right. There is no way this comp is running 4050mhz at 1.42v stable with the temps I am seeing because they would HAVE TO BE HIGHER !

    What should I do ?

    Thanks..

    Re: Weird P5k Deluxe issue.

    You are running at 3.6Ghz

On C2D boards, when you drop the multiplier, the board will tell you that the CPU is running at its default multi of 9 instead of 8.

SO, basically, you have 8x450 = 3600. That is the real speed. The board is reporting 9x450 =4050. Its not great, but its normal.

Some software will tell you the same, some software, such as Sisift Sandra should give you the correct readings as well. In fact, I could have sworn that CPU-Z used to be correct as well.

    Re: Weird P5k Deluxe issue.

CPU-Z reporting incorrectly is strange, it's normally spot on.

Most applications report reduced multipliers incorrectly with the P5K boards, seems the BIOS reports the stock multiplier instead of the actual one being used.

    Re: Weird P5k Deluxe issue.

Well thanks for the heads up on this issue. I knew better than 4ghz at my settings unless I had a truly one of a kind cpu. 4ghz at 1.4v !!! Not even possible is it ?
