    it'll probably be a regional market thing, North Am, EU, Asia then.

    Re: Lightweight ATX case

    Interesting review - but I think the design has moved on (a little) since then. As they refer to 60mm fans

    Regarding fans - I made two mistakes
    • one was not to read the small print about the clearance of the CPU cooler - a maximum 78mm height
    • the other too buy some super quiet 80mm fans - The ones supplied in the SG01 ones are superquiet - they have 80mm dia blades - but are not in a standard 80mm casing - so some more items for the spares box

    yes I wanted to use the SG01 for sound recording work, so sound reduction was a priority for me. The disk drives are easily the noisiest items - when they are not moving there is more hum from my (Naim) amplifier than the SG01

    All I have done is to:
    • put some insulation in the case - stops resonance;
    • put it on it's own little table - stops the desk resonating;
    • put the feet on cork table mats - reduce transmission

    I can only guess Silverstone paid attention - in which case hat's off to them

    PS I don't work for Silverstone (or scan) - but I got a lot out of researching for mine here and elsewhere...

    Re: Lightweight ATX case

    When a company like Silverstone does a radical design u-turn from the SG01/02 to the SG03 it makes you wonder whether they conceded an inherent weakness of design. I'm sure for normal hardware run normally there wouldn't be much problem in an SG02. I would still be wary of using an overclocked Quad in one though. Out of the three I would certainly look at the SG03 redesign.

    Being in a case is one of the best forms of protection a hard drive can have against knocks (assuming you keep the case packing so it can withstand drops). Also, I remember a long article from someone at Quantum some years ago saying the worst knocks hard drives take is those little bumps trying to get it in/out of the hard drive cage on a case.

    Re: Lightweight ATX case

    In regards to the OP, my recomendation for his case would be a Lian-Li PC-A05, it's small, lightweight but still has the full depth needed to fit an ATX mobo and a GeForce 8800GTX.

    Cooling properties are reasonable, and it's well suited to sitting undernearth a desk thanks to the back to front airflow.

    PC-A05 is 39.2 litres, some 3.5 times the volume of a Shuttle.
