So VX or HX then??
So VX or HX then??
I am looking at the most stable power source I can get for between 40-60 quid. Modular cables would be nice but not a necessity. You see my current PSU does seem to be able to boot up my computer since I changed to the iCFX3200 RD600 board and hence I just need a decent PSU which will last for a few years and also ascertain if my motherboard is screwed or not!
Since this is my backup pc I do not intend to overstress it. My current bits are as follows:
Core2 E4300 hopefully overclocked to 3ghz
1gb of RAM
80gb IDE hard disk
8500gt card
However I hope the new PSU will have enough juice to power a quad core and a decent midrange card in the future with maybe another gig of RAM if the nedd arises.
My current PSU is a Globalwinn SAF520 PSU which does not have a 24 pin connector or the addtional 8pin one(it only has 4pins)
I have noticed that the VX550W will not be available at most places for a week or two.

well if it was a choice between the VX450 or HX520, I would pick the HX520, if it was between the VX550 or HX520, I would pick the VX550
edit - the VX450 should be fine IMO even with a quad

seems like everybody's put the points i was going to make, thanks guys
Like i said VX550 looks a better psu & is cheaper
41A 12V single rail is pretty damn good.
From Article
Ultra-quiet 120mm double ball-bearing thermally controlled fan
High efficiency, up to 85% under a wide load range
Single +12V rail offers maximum compatibility with latest components
High-quality Japanese capacitors
Over Current/Voltage/Power Protection, Under Voltage Protection, and Short Circuit Protection
5 Year Corsair Limited Warranty
It seems that the VX550W is a good choice but it is arriving two weeks too late for me. I really need to test this board ASAP. Just my luck as usual! I also had to choose the pickiest motherboard in the universe too!!
So it is either a VX450W or a HX520W. I know that the latter is known to work with my motherboard but I have no idea if the former will not cause issues. However 20 quid difference is still 20 quid!! Decisions! Decisions!
What do you guys think considering it is a blasted RD600 chipset??
I know I am asking so many questions but I just want to get the best PSU in my price range!
So a VX450W or HX520 then since the VX550W seems to be not in stock anywhere??
Think i'd wait for VX550W., whilst swapping/returning mobo:lol;
No Sorry it's a hardish choice, probably can't go far wrong with either. probably makes most sense to go with the one with the max 12v amps.
luck
I decided to go with the HX520 as I know it is compatible with my motherboard. I would have got the VX550W as it was cheaper and would have done the job but I want to make sure that it is the board and not the PSU which is the problem.
Am I right in reading that the HX520 can give 40A as opposed to the 34A of the VX450??
?? According to this review 30 amp was drawn on one of the rails:
http://jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=28
despite being listed with multiple rails, the HX series is infact running one +12V rail

True separate railed PSUs do not have this ability.Keep in mind that if one rail is overloaded, the power supply can draw power from the other rails in order to balance that load. This is done internally and automatically.
