Best vga air cooling for 8800gts/gtx

I want to overclock my 8800gts and get a bit quieter cooling solution stock fan is noisy I hate to think what the ATI one sounds like if the 8800 is quieter!

    Cheers

Around £50 from QuietPC, pricey, but quiet.

Nice, thanks for posting that.. cant wait to get it

Do you think it would be difficult to remove the original 8800 cooler?

Not difficult at all, I took my stock 8800GTX cooler off within minutes, I've got an EK Waterblock on mine atm.

Re: Best vga air cooling for 8800gts/gtx

There's also the Thermalright HR-03 PLus, which fits on a GTX as well as a GTS so I've read. One slight disadvantage is that you need to buy your own 92mm fan for it, but that does mean it's as quiet as you want it to be, and even with a low RPM quiet fan, such as a Scythe, it still out-performs the stock cooler.

Another thing about it is that with a fan, the entire graphics card takes up 5 PCI slots, so depending on the motherboard layout, you may or may not be able to fit a seperate sound card in.

With a fan, the price is similar to the Zalman cooler.

Out of interest is it only EVGA that will still give you warrenty on cards with replacement heatsinks? Also is there anywhere that sells pre-modded graphics cards?

I'd imagine that you could still use the warranty on the card just as long as you put the original stock cooler back on, how would they know?
The only pre-modded ones that I've seen are the Watercooled editions, maybe that will change within a few months or so.

    I'd get this fan instead of that 92mm LED NorthQ: Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E 120mm Fan 1200 RPM @ £12.33
I've got 4 of these Scythe fans in my pc now and they are virtually silent and give decent airflow.

thanks for that suggestion but i wanted something with an LED.

do u know any other 92mm fans that you would recommend that are less that 1500 rpm, because i want it virtually silent and something with an led?

because i was going to go for the zalman vf1000led because it looked really nice... especially with the LED fan..

Doesn't a silly size cooler like the HR-03 block off all the other slots on a motherboard though? The size of the thing looks like at a bare minimum it'd obscure the next two slots...

Not to mention adding a fan to it, good luck going SLi in the future, heh.

do u know any other 92mm fans that you would recommend that are less that 1500 rpm, because i want it virtually silent and something with an led?

because i was going to go for the zalman vf1000led because it looked really nice... especially with the LED fan..
If the NorthQ 120mm fan I have is anything to go by, then the 92mm one should as good as so I'd stick with that if you want quiet and flashy.
