i may get 4gb ram as ill be running vista and i like to have alot of thing running at once and overclock the ram
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
I wouldn't bother with the ballistix tbh. If you overclock you'll want to run the ram and cpu fsb's 1:1 and even PC6400 wouldn't be running it's stock speed at the speeds the q6600 will hit.
PC6400 @ stock settings has a q6600 running 3.6GHz which isn't going to happen.
This ram is perfect for what you need
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC)
Cheap as chips and really good quality. Got 2 sets myself and a mate has a set.
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
nice for ocuk thats a ace price hmm yes 2 packs of that crank that up get it running nicely then im good to go
any reccomendations on extra cooling
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
you can save another tenner getting the today only q6600 oem from scan, since you are getting the ninja anyway.
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
that case is great for cooling. With the Scythe ninja it'll run very cool and quiet (you'll only hear the graphics card)
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
soo all there is to do now is make it look pretty with some stuff read up on overclocking and order!
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
i shall hav a look at that thanks for your help soo u think with that pc i will be all good wen i have overclocked it and i will get a nice performance output from it?
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
It would be good even without overclocking :) It will certainly be a good performer for a fair few years
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
Currently the 8800GT is the best card for the cash, but it'svery hard to get hold of due to shortages, if you're not buying untill xmass then the shortages should of been sotred out well before that.
However there will be new revisions of the 8800GTS and 8800GTX so they may be a better choise . . . we just don't know yet.
Also by xmass better coolers should start appearing for the 8800gt.
For make BFG and EVGA are rated as the best as they have good cards and 10year warranties :) (like with the ABit and ASUS motherboards, there's not much between them except after sales service)
If you consider a Thermalright cpu cooler then it's the Ultima-90 not the Ultra-90 you want to go for.
Although the Scythe ninja plus is a good cooler.
I agree with staffsmike on the ram, if you're not going for silly overclocks then pc2-6400 is all you need to get a decent overclock. the extra speed of pc2-8500 really will not give you much off a boost (the memory and cpu talk to each other through the northbridge of the motherboard, so the FSB on the motherboard becomes the bottle neck)
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
The revised GTS (more stream processor one) does apparently just about win out over the GT which then brings all three of the 8800's so close together performance wise that neither the GTS or GTX would get my money.
Hard to say at the moment I suppose. You certainly won't be making a bad decision by going with the GT.
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
Penryn pricing will probably be similar to the pricing for Core2 when it first came out last year: Very expensive top-of-the-line desktop and server chips first, rapidly followed by mainstream desktop chips, with the value-priced line coming a month or two after.
The first Penryn server chips are going on sale on Monday. Some have already leaked onto pricelists, and they start at $255.
If you're not going to be buying in the next week, then this whole exercise is pointless (particularly with regards to pricing stuff up), and unless you need a system right now I'd advise waiting 6 weeks or so to get a system with a desktop Penryn chip anyway.
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
Personally, I'd throw in a sound card if your budget allows. I consider the X-Fi a decent all-rounder, though there are better options if you primarily listen to music, requires 5.1 optical out.
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
the inbulit 1s have always been fyne for wat i use im just mainly after the best performace cooling and overclocking machine
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
sooo anyomne esle aggre with what i have picked for my new system
Re: new stuff thinking of getting need opinions
hmmm im now being told to wait for the new chips and gpus is it goning to be better to wait as i dont urgently need a new system now i just wanted 1 as im fed up of my old 1 playing on low graphics
