    AMD Athlon XP2500+ Barton's

Will all of these chips overclock to 2200MHz? Have seen one going cheap and wondering weather to get that instead of the XP1700+ I'm currently looking at and hoping it's unlocked...

I got a week 36 - unlocked chip (on a NF7s2.0, twinmos 3200 1gb & volcano 12+ cooler) and it did crap all would barely go above stock.

Swapped it for a week 50 chip and that OCed to 3200+ speeds easily

by upping the fsb to 200 you can get most to 3200 speeds. However, you do need pc3200 ram.

Yeah, I'm ok with that bit, but most people talk about whether or not these chips can be unlocked to get different multipliers... I'm not bothered about that. If it can be overclocked to 2200GHz no matter when it was made, that's fine with me.

mine will do 2.2 on stock voltage, got 2 other mates with the same chip and they will both hit 2.2. 1 will do 2.5 on 1.75v.

you don't need to unlock the multiplier to get it to 2200, only up the fsb

Yeah, I know that... but if you look at earlier chips some can't overclock well with or without being unlocked (due to voltage issues or whatever).

I just want to know will all Barton 2500's go up to 2.2GHz (being unlocked is not a factor I want to consider at the moment...).

I'm a complete novice to overclocking so I just wanna get a 2500, slap it in with some PC3200 memory and run it at 2.2GHz without any problems.

    so in essence it DOESN'T do 3200 speeds 100% stable...soit doesn't do 3200 really....I mean....it BOOTS and runs Winblows....but it doesn't play stable.

So there ya go....Big_Al...not all do

Course it might be a heatsink issue or thermal paste issue for this bloke

Got a couple of mobo's and stuff from there is quite a good shop - also handy if you need any bits for your car - called in there once for some stuff - couldn't find the damn place - It's just a counter at the back of a small car parts shop

I have a week 30 barton, wouldn't hit 2.0 ghz without massive voltage increases. Got another one, week 34, and it hits 2.2 at 1.7 volts. Having said that, odds are it'll hit 2.2 ghz

Well it's BF1942 really, it's very sensative to overclocking

It will run fine for ~20mins or more... but then just reboots - damn thing
