    memory upgrade

Im looking to upgrade the memory on a k7vm2 asrock motherboard i use Winxp o/s.
On the asrock website the specification says i can have 2gb of memory.
I did a scan of my computer on Crucial website and it said i already had maximum memory installed although i have only 256mb of memory installed.
The memory stick is ddr pc2100.
Any help would be appreciated jhad

    Re: memory upgrade

A quick visit to the ASRock site confirms that it will take 2x1Gb of PC2100. Crucial no longer carries PC2100, which maybe why the website got confused. From what I can see you will pay more for PC2100 than you would for faster memory. I would expect that faster memory will work, but I see that this motherboard hasn't had a BIOS update since September 2003. Frankly it's past it's "use by" date.

P.S. How do you run WinXP on 256Mb?

    Re: memory upgrade

There's no guarantee that faster memory would work, but generally it will either treat it as PC2100 (because it can't recognise anything faster) or you have to manually change some settings in BIOS (which you might have to do while the old RAM is in).

The physical change is merely taking out the old RAM and inserting the new. This isn't a difficult process, but you need to make sure that the sticks are round the right way - and in your case in the right slots as your mobo has slots for two types of RAM. Your motherboard manual should have instructions - and if you don't have one you can download a PDF version from the ASRock site.
