Have you tried overclocking the 8500GT??

I have one for backup purposes and it can be overclocked signficantly.

Here is an article on a the effect shader overclocking has on performance:

8500GT is ripe for overclocking - The INQUIRER

COD4 framerate went up from an average of 27fps at XGA to 42fps!!

    Re: Graphics Card

I've got the GTS edition of the 8500 which is factory overclocked, but I have tried setting the xpertvision overclocking utility to different settings and it becomes a little unstable. It'll be fine with both needles in the orange on the OC utility while I'm playing a game, but then maybe a few hours later it will crash while I'm surfing or something. The screen goes really odd and has light pixelly speckles all over it...

I wold use rivatuner or ATItool for overclocking IMHO. ATItool also enables you to check for the stability of the overclock too!!

I can't get any programs that work seamlessly with the 8800gts 320 and vista. They used to work to a degree... but now if I start up ATI tool it says the kernel driver is not enabled. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, to no avail. Using beta drivers.

But then again, it runs everything I throw at it so I don't need to be complaining really
