    Dual monotor problems

    Ok...here goes....

    I have a p5B Deluxe with a X850XT GFX card.

I was running 2 monitors at 1280x1024 with no problems

I have now bought a Samsung 2232BW (amazing monitor!) which runs at 1680x1050.

Due to the limitations of the x850xt I cannot run both monitors at their native reolution (1280x1024 is the max for both)

I tried adding an Nvidia 6600 to the second PCI-E slot, but nothing appears at all on the second screen (not even during booting). If I take either Gfx card out, the other works fine.

The P5b manual does stte that the two slots can be used for dual cards run independently but says no more on the matter.

    Any thoughts?

And secondly am I right to assume that buying a 3870 or 8800gt would allow a single card to run both monitors at native resolution?

    Re: Dual monotor problems

i run a 6600GT connected to a 20" samsung and a 17" sony, both running at native resolution, so buying a 8800GT or 3870 would work fine. My 6600Gt can handle most games on the 20" at a medium settings aswell (UT3, HL2 & battlefield 2) so if your a casual gamer a 7900Gt or something similar would work just as well.

    Re: Dual monotor problems

Running two Samsung 226CW displays on a 8800GT here and mode switching works just fine on one or both displays as and when required. Both displays are quite happy at 1680 x 1050. Hopefully that answers your second question.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

    Re: Dual monotor problems

Any new card will run two monitors at that res i'm sure. My laptop with an 8400GS handles it ok.

Some graphics card combinations simply don't work. It's best to have a search around forums to see what pairs do and don't if you want to try it but i'm guessing these are just the two card you have lying around.

Amazon have an 8800GT 512mb for £116 (or did yesterday), it's a steal if you ask me. If not scan have them at £138 which is still a great deal and you will get it on the double
