    Wot should i do ?

Hi everyone...... I,m hoping for some sensible advice ...at this time i have a Thermaltake tower with AMD Athlon 64 FX55.1 gig of crucial ballistix ram, Asus AX 800XT platinum edition graphics card and MSI K8N Neo 2 platinum motherboard ....... running ot stock clock speed as I have no idea how to overclock it

I,m thinking of buying a friends Shuttle XPC SN26P
AMD opteron T170 processor ...g force 7800 GT graphics card..OCZ PC 3200 2 gig of ram.

Please excuse my ignorance but when it comes to PC's I,m pretty much in the dark

I mainely use my PC for surfing , a bit of on line hosting and just general stuff
i rarely if ever play games on it
Can anyone advise me which system I would be better off with please ? I,m after speed and stability

Re: Wot should i do ?

2GB of RAM would be a nice upgrade but not essential if at all required for surfing, not sure about online hosting.

I think the opteron is 2.0ghz and your FX is 2.6GHz so it might be better to stick with what you have.

Also, FX models usually have an unlocked multiplier which means overclock means just changing one number (the multiplier) in the bios. Not sure how much you will get out of it though.

To be honest I wouldn't buy his PC for very much if you decide to go that way. For your needs you could build something pretty decent for around £200 - £250 from all new parts or a bit less salvaging your old hard drives etc..
There are also some dells floating around at a good price for a decent spec.

Re: Wot should i do ?

as said above, what you have seems fine for general office type use, if anything i'd just up the ram to 1.5 or 2gb.

that said, here's what i just built for £250. prices are all the cheapest you'll find em anywhere (and include shipping) so you'll only save money by downgrading a few things. drop vista for a spare copy of xp and it's under £200. oh and it's integrated graphics only but you can always use your old card if you need to. actually... a few things you could use again. so... this prolly ain't much use anyway... oh well...

i'dstick with what yiou got that fx 55 will do 2.9ghz easy 3gigs at a psuh i'd just buy another gig of ram if you are really worried about performance

plus if your's is running fine and stable they do say "if aint borke don't fix it"
