Re: Please help spec up a computer for £500

Hi guys, I'm about to order it now, just need your help for one more thing. Here's the current thought:

    LN19074
Antec Sonata 3 Super Black Mini Tower Case with 500W aPFC PSU £66.89 £78.60

    Abit IP-35, Dark Raider, iP35 Express, S 775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 533/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX £52.99 £62.26

    1 LN18913 Abit IP-35, Dark Raider, iP35 Express, S 775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 533/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX

    LN20707
    Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600 G0 SLACR, 95W, S775, 2.40 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 8MB Cache, OEM £129.99 £152.74

    LN14277
    2GB (2x1GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12 £30.89 £36.30

    LN13080
    Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - P4 up to 4.4GHz - S775 Dual/Quad Core Ready - The Favourite One! £10.89 £12.80

    Optiarc/NEC AD 7200S-0B 20xDVD±R, 8xDVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, DVD-RAM x12, SATA, Black, OEM,+ Ahead £12.99 £15.26

    1 LN21400 Optiarc/NEC AD 7200S-0B 20xDVD±R, 8xDVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, DVD-RAM x12, SATA, Black, OEM,

    1 LN18487 Ahead Nero Essentials Burning ROM Suite 1 V7 Vista/Labelflash Edition

    Net Total £304.64

    Carriage £9.13

    V.A.T. £54.91

    TOTAL £368.68

How's that? The only thing I'm stuck on is the graphics card... he only has a 15" screen at the minute so I'm fairly certain he doesn't need an amazing amount of memory, but of course there's always possibility that he'll get something bigger later. What's a good compromise? I can't decide!

    Cheers

Re: Please help spec up a computer for £500

    'ello,

I just ordered it Got a proper version of vista already so didn't need that in this order and I got a 8800GS 384MB, the £124 Asus one. That's alright isn't it? It'll cope up to a 22" won't it? He'll be using a SATA drive he already has! It annoys me that he was so desperate to have a quad core when a dual core would have been just fine and saved a wedge. Oh well.

Re: Please help spec up a computer for £500

The GS seems pretty good. The overclocked ones seem to be pretty much as good if not better than the ATi HD3850pro but that said, they overclock quite well and do come out a bit cheaper..

    Swings and roundabouts I suppose.
