aaaaggggghhhh RAID partition just died on me!

Just in case any one else is as stupid as me.....

I've just updated the BIOS on my gigabyte P35C DS3R (apparently the ram voltage was a bit screwy in the old one) and after updating, you're advised to reload the "optimized" defaults.

the big problem with that is that it turns OFF the RAID setting. When you then boot into an xp partition (it's my safety/comfort OS, on a separate HDD) without putting RAID to ON, it kills your RAID 0 partition and your vista install with it .

Still, the RAID 1 partition on the same set of drives survived (albeit degraded) so no real harm done. If nothing else, it's forcefully reminded me that RAID 0 is only any good for stuff you really don't care about.

Now, must remember to ghost my vista install this time round

Well even that shouldn't of happened regardless of it being RAID 0, I should know as I had a RAID 0 and reset the CMOS booted up and forgot about re-enabling the RAID.

To bad it didn't work for you...

Re: aaaaggggghhhh RAID partition just died on me!

One of the drives is just not showing as part of the array any more.

I'll try setting up the arrays again, but at the moment I'm using the very helpful info in this post: http://forums.hexus.net/help-technic...d-failure.html to see if I can get any of the info back. 55 mins to go before the scan of the drives has finished...

I'm still hoping that redefining the arrays the same as before will sort it out and it'll all be fine, but didn't want to mess as I can imagine it would wipe the partition table or something.

I've always had little issues like this with onboard raid, it's never stopped me going back to it though, if it's there I use it!
