    Re: PSU sufficient?

Rather than start another thread I'll just add on here, just hope people see it

I'm looking to get a Corsair VX450. I know that it will comfortably power what I've got running at the minute: Core 2 Duo E6750@3.2, 2GB DDR2 (2x1GB), 1 SATA HDD, 1 SATA DVD Drive and a ATI x1950 Pro (plus a couple of usb things and a PCI sound card).

But what I wanted to know is will it survive future upgrades such as Quad Core (probable OC), decent next gen mid-range graphics card, 4GB DDR2 (4x1GB) and maybe an extra HDD or two?

    Re: PSU sufficient?

Most tests I've seen across several reviews show that the 3870 X2 (which is by no mean a low powered mid-range GFX card) needs about 135W on idle (highest seen 151W) and 300-350W under load (difference can probably be attributed to different test-beds - I've seen Duo, Duo Extreme and Quad Extreme being used though most at stock). I would go with a cautionary yes: you should be quite safe even if you overclock a Q6600 quite heavily assuming you are using a mid-range GFX card. Chances are, it would stick work with an even more powerful graphic card, but I am not too keen on running my PSU at over 80% of it's rated capacity for prolonged period.
