Need to build a new gaming rig £1000 to spend!

Hi people, i really need to build a new tower from the ground up, i want all new parts. I built my old system over 4 years ago and apart from a new graphics card and new memory its finding it hard to cope with all the new software about.

I will probably go with a thermaltake case not sure which yet? 4-500gb hard disc and 2-3g of memory, graphics card must be decent as i don't like choppy graphics (ps3 killer) and an AMD cpu

    Any suggestions / recommendation's?

Re: Need to build a new gaming rig £1000 to spend!

There's so many lies in that spec I don't know where to start. And the warranty is not worth the paper it's not printed on (32 whole ebay transactions - wow!).

The real question is what size monitor you want, so we can see how much of your £1000 is going to go on that.

**Edit** If you already have a monitor, what size is it?

Please, please don't buy that! He's quoting a 13.44Ghz CPU, 12,000rpm HDD and 2 graphics cards even though 1 is actually onboard!!! Definitely stay away from that.

I'll post back later with some suggestions, but need to know whether you need a monitor out of that budget? if so what size?

Re: Need to build a new gaming rig £1000 to spend!

Wouldn't bother with AMD at the moment

If you want a decent PC then I suggest this (this assumes you dont want to upgrade again for another 3 - 4 years)

    Intel Q6600 + scythe ninja ~£180
    4GB PC6400 RAM ~£60
Abit IP-35 dark raider~£60 or the PRO version ~£100
Antec P182 ~£80 I dont really like thermaltake and the antec is almost silent.
    Corsair 520W HX PSU ~£65
    ATi HD3870X2 ~£270 or Geforce 8800GTS 512mb ~£180
    500GB Western Digital AAKS ~£60

With the Dark raider mobo and HD3870X2 this is around £775 so you could buy a blue ray optical drive and stay within the £1000 budget.

    Just my thoughts.

That will be damn near silent except the graphics card, and will overclock nicely to around 3.4GHz which will be plenty enough for a long time

EDIT: lol almost the same as s_Kintons, didnt see it while i was writing the post

I second Mike's spec and vote for the IP-35 Pro because I loves mine.

The one place I might differ now is the RAM. I think it's worthwhile thinking about PC1000+ if you're going for one of the new quads.

With a budget of 1000 to last a few years i would have thought faster ram and a Q9*** series myself. Also maybe leave it a few weeks for the 9800s aswell see how well they perform.
