LCD Cleaner

Is there a good product to gently clean your LCD monitors? Im gunna get some LCD cleaner from ASDA to be sure Just wondered if there was any house-hold products that would be safe to use?

AF Screen-Clene and AF Lint Free Cloths, try Amazon.

The old favourite, Isopropyl alcohol on a lint free cloth, or presoaked wipes sold for the purpose. Be careful with household products, they can damage plastic surfaces - you don't always know what solvents might be in them. Something like Dettox might be OK - but apply sparingly - with a cloth - don't spray it directly onto the screen.

Dont want anything burning throught now do we :| Ill pop to ASDA and get their LCD Cleaner solution and lint free cloth Then I can do my TVs as well

...or then I could use Cillit Bang and a scouring pad... just kidding

A good cheap option are KFC hand wipes.

I have a bowl full of them next to my monitor and they work really well. Plus you get a lemony fresh smell

IPA is sate to use? i would have thought it would be quite damaging as it is a solvent?

It isn't a (common) plastic solvent.

A weak detergent solution applied with a lint free cloth is recommended by the manufacturers. Alcohol or any other solvent is a no no on a plastic surface as it will eat into the plastic surface over time. The other option is a microfibre cloth, they are pretty god at picking up dast and non sticky bits.

I just spary on some water and then wipe it of with kitchen roll...........works for me

Yeh I would just use some mild detergent and a soft cloth. There's enough companies ripping the public off by charging silly prices for so-called specialist products.

The problem with detergent is that it can leave a sticky residue if it is too strong or not rinsed off fully - and rinsing means lots of water- which isn't good for electronics. It can also leave distracting drying marks on the screen surface.

The advantage of an alcohol wipe is that it evaporates quickly, is unlikely to cause damage if it is applied with a heavy hand, and will remove sticky fingerprints. A very mild detergebt solution might be OK for the plastic cabinet, but for the screen face, I'd use a lint free cloth moistened with IPA.

I use a Spontex Window Wonder cloth. It's a lint-free microfibre cloth and just needs to be slightly dampened with a few drops of tap water. Works like a champ and the bonus is that you can clean all the windows, mirrors, TVs in your house too. No chemicals and reusable hundreds of times. You should be able to pick one up for a couple of quid from Sainsburys or Tescos

How about those dry microfibre cloths you get with spectacles - they should work fine as well.
