    Q6600 Best Motherboard for Overclocking+

Does anyone know which is the best MB for overclocking the Q6600 atm i've got a FP-IN9 SLI 650i & Q6600 Overclocked @ 2.7GHz (w/ Arctic 7 Freezer) but thats all the MB can do.

I want the MB to be 45nm supported and PCI-e x16 cos i'm upgrading to 9800GX2 end of this month are any of the 780i chipsets worth it?

if you don't need the 2 slots/nVidia chipset for SLI get a P35 chipset mobo.

    MSI P55-GD80, i5 750
    abit A-S78H, Phenom 9750,

Overclocking wise, the best board is probably the Abit IP35 Pro, with the Abit IP35 Dark Raider coming in second at half the price of the Pro.

They both support 45nm and obviously have PCI-E 16x

The PRO is equal to the Delux or premium P5K. Both good boards and since Abit seem to be moving there support away from the UK either will probably serve you just as well as the other.

I'd still take the IP-35 at the moment as ASUS support is truely rubbish but their quality is fantastic (as is ABIT's).

The dark raider is plenty good enough to overclock the Q6600 but will perhaps run hotter and not quite as safely as the PRO would for very high clocks. Something like 3.4GHz will be not trouble though

My iX38 QuadGT can overclock the Q6600 to 3.4ghz without a voltage increase.
I would say thats pretty good.........

    its a Q6600 GO - SLACR

i've read those 780i MB's can also go to 3.4-7Ghz around so not 100% sure maybe its worth just getting the 780i chipset and maybe later be-able to get sli 9800gx2's.

I've seen vids/blogs ppl say u can get 4.4Ghz with Q6600 doesnt anyone have any idea which board they are using?

    YouTube - 3DMark06 Watercooled Q6600 @ 4Ghz HD3870 Crossfire
    YouTube - Intel Q6600 Overclock (latest - 4Ghz)

both are using 'Maximus Formula SE' Mb's..

With water cooling you can push them very hard but I don't water cool so no idea how hard it is and what kind of kit you would need to do it. Clunk has done similar things with his setup.

780/790i is very expensive for what it is. Do you honestly need to sli 9800GX2's What size screen do you play on?

I'd struggle to recommend the premium p5K anyway, the SATA ports are in a stupid position, I can only use 4 of them due to my graphics card literally covering a couple of them up.

IP-35 looks like the way to go if you don't need SLI.

I cant see how.........I would like a CPUz screenshot of that one.

I havent heard of anyone that can without a volt increase. Its very rare it gets to 3.4 without one let alone what you are claiming.

I thought it was a pretty common problem with the P5K (or at least some of them) that the longer graphics cards (which the GX2 most certain is) block off two sata ports.

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
you can see using this picture.. a double width card like the gx2 which comes off the end of the board will block ports. The abit PRO has angled connectors to avoid this.

Also should point out that as good as the ac7f is I doubt it will cope that well with a heavy OC on a quad core.

I seem to remember that being mentioned before, I think that one of the two can be used with an angled sata plug.
it used to be caused by the 8800gtx espically if I remember correctly with the original 8800gts less baddly effected as it was that little bit shorter and the cooler not running all the way to the back of the card.
a 9800gx2 on the other hand . . . probably block off both
