    Question Laptop HDD Upgrade

I am currently looking to upgrade my laptop from 80GB to something bigger

Currently looking at either the Seagate Momentus 200GB 16MB 7200.2 or the WD Scorpio 320GB 8MB 5400

Does anyone have either of these drives or any reviews/stats on either

My laptop will be running either XP/Vista/Linux (one of them) and will be my day to day work laptop and running multiple VMs for studying/testing

    Thanks

    Andy

    Re: Laptop HDD Upgrade

I run a 200gb 7200rpm laptop HDD (hitachi) and it's pretty good. Certainly noticably better than small 5400rpm drives but not so much with the bigger newer 5400rpm drives.

I much prefer WD to seagate so I would probably get the scorpio. I don't think there will be a big speed difference but I don't know.

The 320Gb hitachi drive has been tempting me, as I too would like to upgrade so that my little Vostro can finally fully replace my old desktop.

However, I am worried about power consumption - finding comparable figures can be so hard!

    Re: Laptop HDD Upgrade

Power consumption shouldn't be much different and certainly well within requirements.

    Re: Laptop HDD Upgrade

on checking the specs of both drives, performance there is very little in it, however the power consumption, there is a big difference with the WD using a lot more, also there is the warranty to consider as the Seagate has 5yrs
