a lot of people seem to like them yeah, I'm a western digital man myself though.
I have heard of a few early faliures of the samsung drives recently but thats probably due to how many of the things they are selling rather than the quality lol
got two of the t1's (500gb but 166gb platters instead of the 250gb on this one), had them for almost a year now and no problems. quick and quiet, so would vouch for samsung even though i do have a western digital drive as well. also the early failures recently i think are more concerning the 1tb drives, all the hdd with the 250gb platter don't seem to be affected really.
Both Samsung F1 and Western Digital (AAKS) are good drives. The latest WD 640Gb is out now and is supposed to be very good.
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
I use Samsungs - very quiet, and been OK for me. (But asking someone what hard drives they like can take on the proportions of what footy team they support or a matter of religious fervour!))

The samsung is currently (pre-12pm) on today only for a little less I think.
I got a samsung waiting RMA today
Replacing with a WD aaks
They are supposed to be good, but i could never buy samsung HDD again. Although as many like them alot it looks like i was just unlucky.
I've got a couple of samsung drives, not used them yet but bought them on recommendations of people in here.
I like the Spinpoint F1s. Fast, quiet, and priced right.
Hmmm they have changed from the
"HD501LJ Spinpoint T166"
to
"HD502IJ Spinpoint F1"
Upgrade in the technology they use? Same as there 750gb drives then.
I'm assuming they have no change in them other than that, so I'd recommend it. They are unbelievably silent!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Looks like I might be replacing my WD AAKS with a Samsung....I got a samsung waiting RMA today

Only had it since Feb '08 and it has developed bad blocks already and even though the diagnostics from the WD site say it has repaired the bad sectors it still throws up errors in the system logs
Samsung are known for quiet drives, and I mean super silent quiet. Got a 200gb one in this rig now and it's spot on, never makes a peep.
Am tempted by that 500 I really am...

I'd be tempted to stick with them even with the faliure but samsung do offer a good alternative.
